At the beginning of 2023, Latvijas Banka has released a commemorative coin worth 2 euros in honour of Ukraine.

The coin's national side will portray a sunflower, which represents one of the symbols embraced by the Ukrainian people during their pursuit of peace. Ukraine holds the distinction of being the largest cultivator, producer, and exporter of sunflower oil globally. However, the significance of sunflowers transcends Ukraine's national economy. Since the initiation of Russia's brutal war in Ukraine, sunflowers have also gained recognition as a universal emblem of peace. In 1996, sunflowers were used as a symbol of peace for the first time in Ukraine when they were planted at the Pervomaisk missile base to commemorate the elimination of nuclear weapons from the country. Presently, people worldwide employ sunflowers to express their solidarity with and backing for the Ukrainian people.
